Our Story
Zainal & Zainal is a Singapore-based photography studio specialising in executive portraits, personal branding photography, and visual content for corporate communications. Founded and led by Zakaria Zainal — a published author, documentary photographer, and TEDx speaker — the studio has worked with national institutions, financial services firms, and multinational companies across Singapore and the region since 2010. The studio is based at Robinson Road in the CBD and works by appointment.

What we do
Photography is where we spend most of our time. Specifically: photographs of people in professional contexts, made for organisations that need those images to carry weight.
Most of our work falls into three areas.
Executive portraits for individuals who need a photograph that reflects the role they carry — for annual reports, board profiles, media features, and investor communications.
Corporate photography for organisations producing annual reports, campaign materials, sustainability reports, or institutional publications.
Personal branding photography for founders and senior professionals who need images that work across LinkedIn, media appearances, and the boardroom.
Every assignment starts with a written brief. Then a location scout or studio plan. Then a tethered shoot with live review. Then image selection with the client, post-production to an agreed standard, and delivery in full-resolution files. Most single-day projects produce between 10 and 20 finished images.
Who leads the studio
Zakaria Zainal is the director and lead photographer. He is the author of several books on Singapore history, commissioned by the National Museum of Singapore and the National Heritage Board. His documentary project, the Singapore Gurkha Trilogy, has been exhibited internationally at Noorderlicht in the Netherlands and the Dali International Photography Exhibition in China, and was awarded the Fotovisura Grant. He has given two TEDx talks and holds an MA in Digital Management from Hyper Island. He has been an adjunct lecturer at Nanyang Technological University.
Most commercial studios start with the light. Zakaria starts with the person. Fifteen years of documentary work — including the Gurkha Trilogy, commissioned books for the National Museum of Singapore, and international exhibition credits — changes how you read a room before you've touched a camera.
Who we work with
Our clients are typically heads of communications, marketing directors, HR leaders, or executive assistants briefing on behalf of C-suite. They come to us when the brief matters — when a photograph will appear in a sustainability report, a regional campaign, a speaker profile, or a board-level publication.
