The story of Semula started in late 2019 for a womenswear capsule that would reflect the spirit of the Malay Nusantara and Southeast Asian heritage. This region's traditional wear has long been regarded in the 20th century as occasion wear, reserved for momentous milestones.
Traditional Southeast Asian attire are known for their modest elegance. An example is the batik co-ords mirror these values, and consist of separates — fitted culottes and an easy-wearing top that go just as well together as they do on their own.
