Batik Singapore with Studio Gypsied - Semula Collection
Photographed Studio Gypsied’s Semula collection in early 2022.
The story of Semula started in late 2019 for a womenswear capsule that would reflect the spirit of the Malay Nusantara and Southeast Asian heritage. This region's traditional wear has long been regarded in the 20th century as occasion wear, reserved for momentous milestones.
Traditional Southeast Asian attire are known for their modest elegance. An example is the batik co-ords mirror these values, and consist of separates — fitted culottes and an easy-wearing top that go just as well together as they do on their own.
Aarti Ramaswami - Financial Times - Business Education: Masters in Management
Photographed Professor Aarti Ramaswami, Essec’s dean of pre-experience programmes for Financial Times publication Business Education: Masters in Management.
Programme providers are balancing student demand for an international education with overseas internships and study against the need to shrink their footprints. Essec has committed to reducing the carbon impact of student travel on programmes including its masters in management (MiM) by 30 per cent in three years.
“Part of the student experience and journey is having an international experience, and yet student travel and mobility is one of the higher sources of carbon footprint within the school,” says Ramaswami. “We’re making very conscious efforts to reduce that.”
Portrait Photographer Singapore - Royston Tan - Uniqlo
We photographed Royston Tan for Uniqlo and Aflo Images as part of a bigger campaign, “What will you wear tomorrow?”
Working with the talented Gladys Ng and her team, we spent almost a day with Royston famous for films such as "15", "12 Lotus", and "881". This year, he was the Creative Director of Singapore’s National Day Parade – a daunting task with the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The one thing I remembered from that day was his approach to making films and life: "In life, sometimes there isn’t a second chance, but in film I can give it a second chance. "
